RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Judith M. Sauri, has stepped down as Principal of Richard Edwards Dual Language Fine and Performing Arts International Baccalaureate School ("Edwards School") in June 2020, after 32 years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, the Chicago City Council has been informed of her retirement by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Judith received two master degrees in Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Educational Leadership and Administration and Supervision of Schools; and
WHEREAS, Prior to moving to Chicago, Judy graduated Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico eventually becoming Associate Director of the School ofBusiness Administration at Universidad del Turabo; and
WHEREAS, In addition to graduate work, Judy completed post-graduate level programs, Scholar of the DeWitt Wallace Foundation Pathways Program and the Leadership Academy and Urban Network for Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Judith served as an apprentice principal of Marshall Metro High School, a neighborhood school with at risk students in a predominately African American community; and
WHEREAS, Judith went on to serve as Assistant Principal of Benito Juarez Community Academy High School, a Chicago Public School that serves 98% Hispanic student population in Chicago's Pilsen community; and
WHEREAS, During her tenure in the Chicago Public Schools ("CPS"), Judith also served as Assistant Principal of Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez School with a student population of over 1,000 students in the primary grades, eventually earning the trust of the CPS and appointing her as the Principal of Edwards; and
WHEREAS, Judith has much experience as a musician and performer, the result of which is evident in the important Arts programs developed at Edwards School; and
WHEREAS, Judith's current affiliations include serving as President of the Illinois Association of Multilingual Multicultural Education, Treasurer of National Association of Bilingual Education, Vice-President ofthe Network ...
