RESOLUTION HONORING STEINMETZ COLLEGE PREP
WHEREAS, Steinmetz College Prep was established in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood in 1934 as Steinmetz High School; and
WHEREAS, Steinmetz College Prep has been key to the development of Belmont Cragin from that point forward; and
WHEREAS, The teachers, staff, and principals have since then looked after the best interests of students, parents, and community alike; and
WHEREAS, During the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, Belmont Cragin had among the highest rate of COVID-19 cases in any neighborhood in the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Because ofthe leadership of Principal Jaime G. Jaramillo, Jr.'s, Steinmetz College Prep was chosen as a mass-vaccination site; and
WHEREAS, During the same pandemic, teachers, staff, and principal selflessly, and without hesitation, donated their time, space, and efforts thereby aiding the City of Chicago's immunization of neighborhoods most affected by COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, Over 10,000 residents have received the first dose ofthe vaccine, far surpassing the initial goal of 8,000 first doses administered; and
WHEREAS, By these actions have proven once again that they are worthy of being called the "Pride ofthe Northwest Side"; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and Members of the City Council of Chicago, assembled on this twenty-fourth day of March, 2021 do hereby honor Steinmetz College Prep, its teachers, staff, and Principal Jaime G. Jaramillo, Jr. for their help and service to mitigate the spread of COVID-19; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Steinmetz College Prep as a token of our respect and of our best wishes for continued success.
