SALUTING COMMANDER FRANK C. GROSS ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT

WHEREAS, Commander Frank C. Gross, an outstanding member of the Chicago Police Department, has retired after more than a quarter century of perseverance, hard work, and dedication; and

WHEREAS, Commander Gross earned his Bachelors of Arts in Criminal Justice from Lewis University in 1997 as well as a Masters of Business Administration in Management from St. Xavier University in 2005; and
WHEREAS, In 1986, Frank Gross began his career as a Patrol Officer in the 11th and 14th district. After four years, he was promoted to Detective. Subsequently, his rank advanced to Sergeant of Police where he spent four years monitoring, supervising, and mentoring the patrol officers under his command; and

WHEREAS, Frank Gross earned the title of Lieutenant, working with the community to create strategies that could help reduce crime in the district. Succeeding this position, he became Captain in command of 75 officers ranging from lieutenants, sergeants and patrol officers to department civilians; and

WHEREAS, Commander Frank Gross used his notable skills and the experience gained coming up through the ranks to shoulder greater responsibilities for the City of Chicago, organizing security and traffic control for major events such as the Bank of America Marathon and mass protests concerning war, immigration and NATO as well as festivals, sport events, parades and, most importantly, the coordination of protection for President Barack Obama; and

WHEREAS, Commander Gross has garnered many noteworthy accolades such as the Junior Chamber of Commerce Award in 1990, a Lifesaving Award in 1992, the Democratic National Convention Award, a 2004 Crime Reduction Award and an Officer of the Month Award along with 34 complimentary letters, 36 honorable mentions; and
