RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, William Clark has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-one; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, William Clark was an influential member of President Ronald Reagan's administration and served as both National Security Adviser and Interior Secretary; and
 
WHEREAS, While William Clark initially studied to be a priest, he later became a rancher; and
 
WHEREAS, William Clark passed the California bar examination on his second attempt without graduating from either college or law school; and
 
WHEREAS, During the 1950s, William Clark ably served as a member of the United States Army Counterintelligence Corps in Europe; and
 
WHEREAS, William Clark first impressed the future president as a county organizer during Ronald Reagan's successful bid for Governor of California in 1966; and
 
WHEREAS, William Clark became like a brother to the President and shared basic values and a love for horseback riding; and
 
WHEREAS, William Clark followed Ronald Reagan to Washington, D.C., where he was a principal figure in advancing the President's philosophy of "peace through strength"; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of William Clark serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, William Clark will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, William Clark imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of September, 2013, do hereby commemorate William Clark for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of William Clark.
