RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Clyde Black has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of sixty; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A native of Pompano Beach, Florida, Clyde Black had twelve siblings and served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Black moved to Chicago in 1978, took up residence at 68th Street and Normal Avenue and became a true Chicago entrepreneur; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Black operated a shoe shine stand at the dual City Hall-County Building for thirty-five years where he served as an unofficial greeter and was on a first-name basis with a wide array of lawyers, public servants and politicians; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Black always wore a crisp bow-tie and took great pride in his work; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Black read several newspapers every morning so he could discuss current events with his customers and lend a compassionate ear to those who confided their problems to him; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Black enjoyed the music of singers such as Gladys Knight and Whitney Houston and was an excellent cook; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Clyde Black serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Clyde Black to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Clyde Black will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Clyde Black imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February, 2014, do hereby commemorate Clyde Black for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
