RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Colette A. Durkin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-three; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A resident of Westchester, Colette A. Durkin was the matriarch of an influential Chicago political family and the loving wife of Thomas J.; and
 
WHEREAS, Colette A. Durkin devoted her life to raising her family and was the much-adored mother of the Honorable Thomas, Kevin, Terry, Michael, Patrick, the Honorable James, Robert and William; and
 
WHEREAS, A devout Catholic, Collete A. Durkin emphasized education and sent all of her children to Divine Infant Grammar School and Fenwick High School in Oak Park before they attended their respective colleges; and
 
WHEREAS, Colette A. Durkin was the devoted grandmother of twenty-seven and a model of compassion and kindness to others; and
 
WHEREAS, Colette A. Durkin was an active supporter of Catholic Charities, Misericordia and Mercy Home; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Colette A. Durkin serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Colette A. Durkin to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Colette A. Durkin will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Colette A. Durkin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February, 2014, do hereby commemorate Colette A. Durkin for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Colette A. Durkin.
