RESOLUTION HONORING PRINCIPAL GRACIANO ORTEGA FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE CHICAGO PUBLIC SCHOOLS

WHEREAS, Principal Graciano Ortega has announced his retirement from a long and distinguished career of outstanding service to many grateful students in the Chicago Public Schools; and

WHEREAS, Principal Ortega arrived in this country from Puerto Rico at the age of 5 years with his mother, who strove to give him the best life and education possible for which he is so grateful; and

WHEREAS, Graciano Ortega, a fine graduate of our Chicago Public School System, having attended Hans Christian Anderson Elementary School and then William Wells High School, decided to pursue a career in education, receiving his teaching certificate from Northeastern IL University and then his Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision from Governors' State University; and

WHEREAS, Graciano Ortega was hired by the Chicago Board of Education in the City of Chicago 39 years ago and has diligently served the children of Chicago ever since; and

WHEREAS, Graciano Ortega has had a distinguished teaching career, teaching at Goethe and Darwin Schools and serving as Assistant Principal and then Principal at Josephine C. Locke School, from which he is retiring and where he will be sorely missed; and

WHEREAS, Principal Graciano Ortega is wished many years of health and happiness to enjoy with his seven children and twelve grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City are cognizant of the great debt owed those in whose hands we place our most important resource, our youth;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here in assembly this 15th day of January, 2014, A.D., do hereby express our gratitude and our congratulations to Graciano Ortega as he retires as an outstanding Principal, and we extend to this fine citizen our very best wishes for continuing success and fulfillment.
