RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Polish Highlanders Alliance of America celebrated the 30th Anniversary of its Dom Podhalan headquarters on October 6, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Chicago is the proud home of many residents who claim the heritage of the Gorale (Polish for "highlanders"), a people with distinctive traditions hailing from the Carpathian mountains of Europe; and
WHEREAS Founded in 1929 in Chicago, the Polish Highlanders Alliance of America represents all of the Goral organizations in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Dom Podhalan (Polish for 'Highlander Home') was built as the headquarters for the group; and
WHEREAS, Modeled on a Carpathian mountain chalet in the traditional Zakopane style of architecture, Dom Podhalan is located at 4808 South Archer Avenue in Chicago's 14th Ward; and
WHEREAS, His Excellency Bishop Andrzej Wypych celebrated Holy Mass at St. Camillus Catholic Church and blessed a new standard for the Polish Highlanders Alliance of America; and
WHEREAS, Beautifully renovated and upgraded with state-of-the-art audio and video equipment, Dom Podhalan serves as a thriving center for the vibrant cultural life of the Goral community in Chicago and throughout the nation; and
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October 2013, do hereby commend the Polish Highlanders Alliance of America for its decades of community service and extend our gratitude for the many contributions it has made and continues to make to the 14th Ward; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Polish Highlanders Alliance of America.
