CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO DR. ELYSE MACH ON HER RETIREMENT AFTER 50 YEARS OF DEDICATED TEACHING SERVICE AT NORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY.
 
 
WHEREAS, On May 13, 2013, Dr. Elyse Mach received the title Professor Emerita from Northeastern Illinois University for dedicated service to teaching music for over 50 years; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this great honor by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman ofthe 39th Ward; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Mach is a musical descendant of Beethoven; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Mach has taught 9,000 students at Northeastern over her 50-year career and has the distinction of serving as a member ofthe International Board of Directors of the American Liszt Society; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Mash has created significant and influential body of scholarly work in the field of piano pedagogy and literature through the publication of numerous books, original compositions, a multitude of articles in national journals; and
 
WHEREAS, Dr. Mach has been active in giving presentations and lectures at regional and international piano conferences including St. Catherine's College of Oxford University, the Amalfi Coast Music Festival in Italy, Kongju, South Korea, the University of Nebraska, the Iowa Music Teachers State Conference, Howard University, the Piano Teachers Forum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, Yale, Northwestern, and the Julliard School of Music; now, therefore,
 
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eleventh day of September, 2013 do hereby offer our heartiest congratulations to Dr. Elyse Mach on her retirement after 50 years of teaching and extend our best wishes for continued success and fulfillment; and
