RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, At approximately 9:30 pm on the night of October 8, 2014, a 76-year-old man who had just returned from visiting his cancer-stricken wife in the hospital put his car away in the garage at 3100 West Peterson Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Two men approached the elderly man and asked him for the time. The two men then struck the elderly man over the head, knocking him unconscious. The offenders then grabbed the victim's keys and drove away in his car; and
WHEREAS, The elderly man called 911. Officers in the area spotted the vehicle fleeing the scene and gave pursuit. After a chase, the carj ackers crashed the stolen car into another car about four miles away in the 4600 block ofNorth Beacon Street; and
WHEREAS, The carjackers tried to run, but the officers on the scene caught them and took them into custody; and
WHEREAS, The elderly man was treated and released for his injuries. The two suspects were charged with Vehicular Car Jacking; and
WHEREAS, There were many officers involved in the case due to the extended car chase. The chase was successful because every one of the officers involved displayed courage, dedication, and clear thinking under pressure; and
WHEREAS, The officers involved were Sergeant Mike Nowacki, Sergeant Patrick Eberling, Officer Piotr Nestorowicz, Officer Davis Murillo, Officer Daniel Vo, Officer Jerry Zanders and Officer Patrick Niedzielak. Officer Murrillo suffered injuries while chasing the offenders; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, gathered here this fifth day of November, 2014, thank the officers involved in apprehending the carjackers for their service, which was truly above and beyond the call of duty, and a credit to the best traditions of the Chicago Police Department.
Be It Further Resolved, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Sergeant Mike Nowacki, Sergeant Patrick Eberling, Officer Piotr Nestorowicz, Officer Davis Murillo...
