RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Natalie Cole has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 65; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Natalie Cole was a legendary singer who followed in the footsteps of her crooner-father Nat King Cole and her mother Maria who sang with the Duke Ellington Orchestra; and
WHEREAS, Born in Los Angeles in 1950, Natalie Cole was raised in the exclusive Hancock Park neighborhood and first appeared publicly with her father singing at the age of 11 on his television show; and
WHEREAS, A pop singer who later to turned more to a more jazz-orientated style, Natalie Cole went on to enjoy a highly successful career during which she won nine Grammy Awards and sold more than 30 million albums; and
WHEREAS, Natalie Cole's hits included songs such as This Will Be, Inseparable, Miss You Like Crazy, Pink Cadillac and the technology-assisted "duet" Unforgettable with her late father; and
WHEREAS, Natalie Cole wrote the 2000 autobiography Angel On My Shoulder and the 2010 memoir Love Brought Me Back; and
WHEREAS, A woman of stylish elegance and charm, Natalie Cole inspired countless people through her immense talent and her courageous victory over drug addiction; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Natalie Cole serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Natalie Cole will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Natalie Cole imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of January, 2016, do hereby commemorate Natalie Cole for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Natalie Cole.
