RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce has announced her retirement as President and Chief Executive Officer of Presence Health, the largest Catholic healthcare system based in Illinois; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce has led the health system since it was established in 2011 following the merger of Provena Health and Resurrection Health Care; and
WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce will officially step down from her post on September 30, 2015, in her role overseeing the Presence Health network which includes 12 hospitals from Evanston to downstate Urbana and long-term care and senior living facilities; and
WHEREAS, An influential healthcare leader and a strong advocate for improving access for all to care, Sandra Bruce has worked for more than 35 years at public and faith-based hospitals; and
WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce was previously President and Chief Executive Officer for Resurrection Health Care in Chicago, Chief Executive Officer of Trinity Health's Saint Alphonsus Health System in Boise, Idaho and the President and CEO of Mercy General Health Partners in Muskegon, Michigan; and
WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce began her career at Berrien General Hospital, where at the age of 29 she became both the youngest and the first female appointed as its Chief Executive Officer; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her long and illustrious career, Sandra Bruce has been dedicated to ensuring that all patients are cared for, regardless of their means; and
WHEREAS, Sandra Bruce was named one of the nation's Top 25 Women in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine 2011 and Grain's Chicago Business named her to its prestigious list of the 20 most powerful women in Chicago business in 2014; and
WHEREAS, A Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives, Sandra Bruce is a Past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic Health Association of the United States; and
