RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael D. Amiridis, a South Carolina educator, has been named the new Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his appointment by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael D. Amiridis came to the University of Illinois at Chicago from the University of South Carolina in Columbia where he served as Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure at the University of South Carolina, Dr. Michael D. Amiridis served as a professor, researcher and senior administrator at its main campus for more than two decades; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael D. Amiridis began his new role as Chancellor on March 16, 2015, as head of Chicago's largest university campus which has more than 28,000 students; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael D. Amiridis will work to further UIC's goal of becoming one of the nation's premier urban research universities; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Michael D. Amiridis serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael D. Amiridis, is a widely respected member of the academic community who is exceedingly worthy of our admiration and esteem; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of April, 2015, do hereby congratulate Dr. Michael D. Amiridis on his appointment as Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Chicago and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success and achievement in this new role; and
