RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Jimmy Piersall has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 87; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Jimmy Piersall was a colorful White Sox broadcaster and Major League outfielder who played for seventeen seasons; and

 

WHEREAS, A native of Waterbury, Connecticut, Jimmy Piersall made his first appearance as a professional ballplayer in 1950; and

 

WHEREAS, Jimmy Piersall played from 1950 to 1967 with teams that included the Red Sox, Indians, Senators, Mets and Angels; and

 

WHEREAS, Jimmy Piersall was a two-time All-Star and Gold Glove winner who played center field; and

 

WHEREAS, Jimmy Piersall earned a .272 career batting average with 256 doubles, 52 triples and 591 runs batted in; and

 

WHEREAS, The legendary Ted Williams once called Jimmy Piersall the greatest center fielder he ever saw; and

 

WHEREAS, The outspoken Jimmy Piersall will long be remembered for teaming up with Harry Caray to announce Chicago White Sox games from 1977 to 1981; and

 

WHEREAS, Jimmy Piersall was later a roving outfield instructor for the Chicago Cubs; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, talent and dedication of Jimmy Piersall serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jimmy Piersall to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Jimmy Piersall imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of June, 2017, do hereby commemorate Jimmy Piersall for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That aRatable copy of tms resolution be presented to the family of Jimmy Pienaall. /
