RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Ted A. Beattie has announced his retirement as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Shedd Aquarium, and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Ted A. Beattie took the helm of the Shedd Aquarium, one of the world's largest aquariums, in 1994 and served as the third President in its history; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Ted A. Beattie, the Shedd Aquarium broadened its commitment to education and built a new wing that houses its award-winning, $45 million Wild Reef exhibit which features one of the largest and most diverse shark exhibits in North America; and
WHEREAS, Ted A. Beattie was previously the Director for the Knoxville Zoo and the Fort Worth Zoo and worked in leadership roles at the Brookfield Zoo and Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden; and
WHEREAS, Ted A. Beattie helped to guide the creation of new ocean policies as a presidential appointee in 2001 to the U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy; and
WHEREAS, Ted A. Beattie graduated from Ohio State University with a master's degree in marketing and public relations and a bachelor's degree in journalism; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ted A. Beattie serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of January, 2016, do hereby congratulate Ted A. Beattie on the occasion of his retirement and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued good health, happiness and prosperity; and
