RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson, Sr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson, Sr., was a retired Chicago Police Department Commander and the loving husband for sixty-six years of Bessie; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson, Sr., was the much-adored father of Damon, Kaye, Michael, Arthur II, Anthony and Marc, the grandfather of eleven and the great-grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson, Sr., served as a Company Clerk in the infantry during World War II; and
WHEREAS, After returning home to Chicago, Arthur Thompson, Sr., began a highly distinguished thirty-three year career with the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson, Sr., was promoted to Lieutenant in 1970 and served as Unit Commander of the Cabrini Green Police Detail, the Model Cities Unit and the Gang Crimes - West Unit; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson, Sr., was appointed Commander of the 7th Police District where he ably served for nearly eight years; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson, Sr., was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1981 and retired in 1987; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Arthur Thompson, Sr., upheld the finest and most noble traditions of the law enforcement community; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Arthur Thompson, Sr., serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Arthur Thompson, Sr., to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Arthur Thompson, Sr., will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
