RESOLUTION HONORING ARTEMIS KOLOVOS AND MARGOT TAYLOR
WHEREAS, It is with great admiration that the members of the Chicago City Council recognize the achievements of Artemis Kolovos and Margot Taylor; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body learned of the work of Artemis Kolovos and Margot Taylor from the Honorable Patrick O'Connor, Alderman of the 40th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Artemis Kolovos is a diverse learning teacher at Lyman A. Budlong Elementary School, while Margot Taylor teaches English as a Second Language at Eliza Chappell Elementary School and is the Bilingual Coordinator; and
WHEREAS, Last year, Artemis and Margot participated on a team project coordinated by Educators for Excellence, a nationwide not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving student learning and elevating the teaching profession. This group of Chicago educators wrote the paper "Sounding the Alarm: Building the Climate & Culture Our Students Need," declaring the importance of culture and climate in schools to best address the needs of students. The paper examined subjects including restorative practice, social-emotional learning and assisting students suffering from trauma. The paper recommended compiling resources, coordinating policies and practices, focusing on improving culture and climate and being supportive of these efforts; and
WHEREAS, During this academic year, these two teachers have been implementing the recommendations they helped develop, enhancing the learning experience for their students; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this twenty-third day of May, 2018, do hereby express our gratitude and sincerest congratulations to Artemis Kolovos and Margot Taylor.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be prepared and presented to Artemis Kolovos and Margot Taylor as a token of our respect.
