Resolution Honoring the Work of Harold L. Lucas
WHEREAS, Mr. Harold L. Lucas has worked for the past thirty-eight years to protect and promote the authentic cultural legacy of Chicago's Bronzeville community; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lucas has enhanced the appeal of the Black Metropolis Historic District as a tourism destination through his hard work on the 'Restoring Bronzeville Campaign; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lucas has proudly illuminated the development and entrepreneurial spirit of the Bronzeville neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, the work of Mr. Lucas has highlighted the important cultural contributions of the many historic residents of Bronzeville; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lucas has preserved the image of Bronzeville as an essential part of the culture of the city of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, as CEO of the Black Metropolis Convention & Tourism Council (BMCTC), Mr. Lucas has marketed the neighborhood of Bronzeville as a prime residential area that is home to a vibrant black renaissance community; and
WHEREAS, the BMCTC has worked to enhance economic development and entrepreneurial opportunities in Bronzeville; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Lucas and the BMCTC own and operate the Bronzeville Visitor Information Center and Gift Shop, which both provides guests with information about the important cultural contributions of Bronzeville and has become a focal point of the community's reinvestment and revitalization efforts
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the City Council members of the City of Chicago assembled this 6th day of July, 2011, A.D., do hereby commemorate Harold L. Lucas for his years of service to the community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Harold L. Lucas.
