A Resolution Honoring the Life of Dorothy Ann McGhee
WHEREAS, Dorothy Ann McGhee was born on July 21,1955 and was called home on March 25th, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McGhee leaves behind three sons, two grandchildren, two brothers, two sisters, one godson, and countless friends; and
 
WHEREAS, Ms. McGhee lived a life that was dedicated to serving others; and
WHEREAS, After obtaining a degree in teaching, Ms. McGhee returned to her community and became involved in numerous organizations and initiatives to help others, improve schools, and beautify the area; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McGhee was a founding member of the 46th/Vincennes Block Club and a member of the Bronzeville Community Action Council, the Peer Parent Education Network, the Bronzeville Neighborhood Collaborative, Local School Councils, Sacred Keepers, and many more; and
WHEREAS, While a member ofthe Peer Parent Education Network, Ms. McGhee played an instrumental role in the development ofthe "Seven Critical Elements" that is still used in the Bronzeville community to evaluate the needs of area schools; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McGhee has received numerous awards and accolades for her service to others from the Illinois Department of Family Services, the Illinois Board of Education, the Illinois Association of Childcare Workers, the Grand Boulevard Federation, and others; and
WHEREAS, Ms. McGhee's commitment to her community earned her reverence and high regard from various elected officials and other community and civic leaders; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this 30th day of April, 2014 do hereby express our condolences to the friends and family of Ms. Dorothy Ann McGhee and acknowledge her service to her community and the City of Chicago; and
BE IT FURTHERED RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this Resolution be presented to the family of Ms. Dorothy Ann McGhee.
