RESOLUTION

 

WHEREAS, Jose Fernandez has been called to eternal life at the age of 24; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Miami, Jose Fernandez was a widely admired member of the baseball community and loving boyfriend to Carla who is pregnant with their first child; and

WHEREAS, Jose Fernandez was a loving son, grandson and family man; and

WHEREAS, Born in Santa Clara, Cuba, Jose Fernandez defected in 2007 with his mother and sister and moved to Tampa where he eventually became an American citizen in 2015; and

WHEREAS, In 2013 Jose Fernandez became a star pitcher for the Miami Marlins and his love for the game was infectious to all players in the league; and

WHEREAS, Jose Fernandez won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 2013 and appeared in the 2016 MLB All-Star Game; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jose Fernandez serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jose Fernandez to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Jose Fernandez was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Jose Fernandez imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of October, 2016, do hereby commemorate Jose Fernandez for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, Thatyfl suitable copy ofthis resolution be presented to
the family of Jose Fernandez.      / /
