MEMORIAL RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned ofthe death of John A. Paterno, on March 11, 2015, at the age of eighty-one; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman ofthe 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, John , the former spouse of Carol, was the devoted son born on November 10,1933 to the late Santo and Josephine Paterno. He was the loving father of Jo Jo (Kurt) Schaerli, Mary (Craig) Novak, Johnnie, Gina (Jeff) Schrantz, Lisa (Marty) Furlong, Francesca (Marc) Dote, Diana and Dathan; beloved grandfather of Kurt, Geneva, Kyle, Joey, Tommy, Abbey, Jack, Olivia, Sofia, Piper, Luca and Rachel; cherished brother of Paul (Diane) Paterno; and loving friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, John was an active and vital member of his community who touched the lives of all who knew him through his kindness, generosity, heart and spirit; and
WHEREAS, John will be deeply missed, but the memory of his character, intelligence and compassion will live on in those who knew and loved him; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City Council ofthe City of Chicago, gathered here this day fifteenth of April 2015, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of John A. Paterno and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of John A. Paterno.
