RESOLUTIO N
WHEREAS, since 1984, Centro Romero has worked to meet the needs of the Latino immigrant and refugee populations by providing important information and critical services to residents of our community; and
WHEREAS, Centro Romero has remained true to its mission of providing opportunities for those community residents with the fewest options; and
WHEREAS, Centro Romero emphasizes the development of the whole family unit, the creation of community leadership, and self-reliance; and
WHEREAS, Centro Romero has made a positive impact on thousands of lives through family services programming, adult education and legal services; and
WHEREAS, Centro Romero's staff of 36 professionals last year served over 15,000 persons with programs and services for the personal and social development of participants and their families; and
WHEREAS, Centro Romero's Board of Directors have provided leadership, stewardship, and prudent financial management; and
WHEREAS, Centro Romero has advocated for the empowerment of the larger immigrant community by building partnerships and supporting other immigrant-serving organizations and religious communities; and
WHEREAS, Daysi J. Funes, a co-founder of the organization, has provided leadership, dedication, and passion to the Latino immigrant community of greater Chicago; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor of the City of Chicago and members of the City Council, gathered this 30th day of April, 2014, do hereby declare Thursday, August 14, 2014 to be CENTRO ROMERO DAY IN CHICAGO, and encourage all Chicagoans to recognize Centro Romero for their contributions to the immigrant community in Chicago; and
