RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, over the past thirty years, Trinity Irish Dancers has provided entertainment and service to the Chicagoland community with a new concept of progressive Irish dance, making all events extraordinary; and,

WHEREAS, Alderman Thomas Tunney has learned of this anniversary milestone; and,

WHEREAS, Trinity Irish Dancers, established thirty years ago by Mark Howard, at age 17, have thrilled audiences worldwide with their inspiring showmanship and been a flagship for Irish dance programs; and,

WHEREAS, currently, Trinity Irish Dancers have 14 locations throughout Illinois and Wisconsin, earning eleven team gold medals and thirty three titles at the World Irish Dance Championships; and,

WHEREAS, Trinity Irish Dancers has appeared in numerous feature films, on local television broadcasts and on national television programs including: The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Jay Leno, Conan, CBS This Morning, The Today Show, Good Morning America and The Martha Stewart Show, and winning two Emmy Awards for appearances on PBS; and,

WHEREAS, the Trinity program is held together by its powerful philosophy of empowerment that teaches students life lessons both on and off the dance floor, striving to give back to the community through numerous community performances. Last year alone we provided over 200 shows for the Illinois area; with roughly 50 being free outreach performances at Misercordia, senior centers, and children's hospitals; and,

WHEREAS, this year, Trinity welcomes Dolores Taaffe, one of the greatest Irish dance teachers in the world. She brings her amazing talent to Trinity as their new coach and choreographer for the Trinity Irish Dancers and will revolutionize Irish dance in the United States. Her level of teaching will elevate the entire North American Irish dance industry. She has been called by some as "the Bela Karolyi of Irish dance" having coached countless Irish dancers to World Champion titles; now therefore,
