Memorial Resolution
WHEREAS, God in His Infinite Wisdom has called Sheila D. Roberts, most beloved citizen to her eternal reward on December 30, 2015; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of Sheila Roberts' death by the Honorable Alderman Carrie M. Austin of the 34th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Sheila Roberts was the 4th of 7 children born to Herbert D. Roberts Sr. and Willie B. Roberts. She graduated from Julian High School, took stenography at Triton College and studied court reporting at the Chicago College of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Sheila D. Roberts was a stenographer in various courtrooms throughout the Chicago area and worked for various municipalities. She greatly enjoyed working for the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. Ms. Roberts also was an Administrative Assistant for the Cook County Board of Commissioners Office and the Illinois Secretary of State; and
WHEREAS, Sheila Roberts was an active volunteer in the community working with seniors and helping people find employment. Sheila was very involved in local political activities and was a Precinct Captain of the 34th Ward; and
WHEREAS, She was a formidable athlete who was on the swim team and track team. She also enjoyed playing double dutch with her sisters. Sheila was very musically talented and played the piano and sang in choirs; and
WHEREAS, Sheila D. Roberts was baptized at the age of 6 at New Testament Missionary Baptist Church and became a member of Second Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist. As a woman of faith, Sheila enjoyed attending church services throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Roberts is survived by her mother Willie B. Roberts; her two children Marvell and Marcus; their father Frederick Wesley; her brothers Herbert D. Roberts Jr. (Sharon) and Cornell Roberts (Stephanie); her sisters Valerie Johnson (Edward), Yvette Roberts, Lynette McCullough (Kelvin) and Latrice Adegoye (Deji), four grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins a...
