RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Luis A. Alcala has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-two; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Luis A. Alcala was the founder of one of the largest Western wear businesses in the Midwest and the loving husband of the late Carmen; and
WHEREAS, Luis A. Alcala was the much-adored father of eleven children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, A native of Durango, Mexico, Luis A. Alcala came to the United States in the 1940s to pick cotton in Mississippi and eventually settled in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Luis A. Alcala founded the family-run business in 1972 at 8727 South Commercial Avenue, but eventually relocated his business to 1733 West Chicago Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Luis A. Alcala's iconic store enjoyed a following that was so extensive that it sold Western wear to celebrities that included country star Dwight Yoakam and rockers Ozzy Osbourne and Steven Tyler; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Luis A. Alcala serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Luis A. Alcala to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Luis A. Alcala was ah individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Luis A. Alcala imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February, 2014, do hereby
commemorate Luis A. Alcala for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution ...
