RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Joseph C. Scully has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 76; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Joseph C. Scully was a widely admired member of the financial community and the loving husband for 53 years of Judy; and
WHEREAS, Joseph C. Scully was the much-adored father of Julie, JoEllen, Elizabeth, Kirk and Katie and the grandfather of nine to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Joseph C. Scully was the dear brother of Edward and the late Roseanne and the late Margie; and
WHEREAS, Joseph C. Scully and his wife lived for 30 years in Oak Park before moving to Chicago and later to Lakeside, Michigan; and
WHEREAS, Joseph C. Scully began his career in 1963 as an appraiser at St. Paul Federal Savings Bank after graduating from Loyola University of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Joseph C. Scully rose to become President and Chief Executive Officer of the bank which expanded from a single Chicago location into a billion-dollar financial company with 60 branches; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his professional life, Joseph C. Scully demonstrated strong leadership skills and a keen eye for delegating responsibility to capable department heads; and
WHEREAS, A quiet and unassuming man, Joseph C. Scully was not afraid to take unpopular stands and was a fierce champion of fair housing; and
WHEREAS, Joseph C. Scully retired in 1999 when the bank was acquired by Charter One; and
WHEREAS, In 2010 Joseph C. Scully became a co-owner of the Vickers Theatre, a movie house in Three Oaks, Michigan that was saved from closure; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Joseph C. Scully serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Joseph C. Scully to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their live...
