TRIBUTE TO LATE ELLIS H. DAVIS
WHEREAS, Almighty God in His infinite wisdom and judgment has called Ellis H. Davis, an outstanding citizen and beloved friend, from this life to eternity, January 15, 2017; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by the Honorable Michelle A. Harris, Alderman of the 8th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Ellis H. Davis, the loving son of Otis and Frankie (Varnado) Davis, was born September 25, 1939 in Magnolia, Mississippi. Ellis accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age and was a devout member of the New Home Baptist Church, later moved his membership to Lilydale Progressive M.B. Church in Chicago. After Ellis graduated he moved to Chicago and began working for the Container Corporation of America as a machinist. In 1961, Ellis and his soul mate Catherine (Ginn) were united in Holy Matrimony and became the proud and loving parents of two children, Serena and Arthell; and
WHEREAS, Ellis H. Davis served his country proudly in the United States Army and received an Honorable Discharge in 1967. Ellis was the Union Steward at Container Corporation and in the early 1980's he became an officer for the Graphic Communications Conference International Union, Local #415, where he dedicated his service for more than 20 years before retiring in 2002; and
WHEREAS, Ellis H. Davis, the cherish husband and life partner of Catherine (deceased); devoted father of Serena Davis Ivery (Darryl) and Arthell Davis; loving grandfather of Ayanna, Amani, Athena and Gianina; brother of Otis Davis (deceased), Clyde Davis (Bessie), Charlestine Powell, Hazel Boyd, Beatrice Johnson and Lynette Nickels; a special friend of Helen Pegues, and a loyal and trusting friend of many, will be deeply missed; and
WHEREAS, To his loving children, grandchildren, and siblings Ellis H. Davis imparts a legacy of love, faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore,
