RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Tommy Hawkins has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 80; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Hawkins was the loving and devoted husband of Layla; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Hawkins was the much-adored father of Kevin, Karel, Traci, David and Neda to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Hawkins was the first black basketball player to earn All-America honors at the University of Notre Dame; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Hawkins had 1,318 career rebounds for the longest-standing record in Notre Dame history; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Hawkins played for the Los Angeles Lakers during his 10-year NBA career; and

WHEREAS, Tommy Hawkins was Vice President of Communications for the Los Angeles Dodgers from 1987 until 2004; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Tommy Hawkins serve as an example to all; and

 

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Tommy Hawkins to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Tommy Hawkins imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of September, 2017, do hereby commemorate Tommy Hawkins for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Tommy Hawkins.
