RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Edith "Eadie" Levy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-two; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of St. Louis and a widely admired member of the hospitality industry, Edith "Eadie" Levy was the loving and devoted wife of the late Paul Levy and the late Bob Abrams; and
 
WHEREAS, Edith "Eadie" Levy was the beloved mother of Larry and Mark, the grandmother of nine and the great-grandmother of fifteen to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1978 Edith "Eadie" Levy came to Chicago to help her sons withtheir struggling restaurant, D.B. Kaplan's Delicatessen; and
 
WHEREAS, With her time-tested family recipes and warm personality, Edith "Eadie" Levy soon put D.B. Kaplan's on the path to success and popularity; and
 
WHEREAS, An integral part of the growth of the Levy Restaurants empire, Edith "Eadie" Levy touched the lives of countless people with her wisdom and generosity; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edith "Eadie" Levy serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Edith "Eadie" Levy to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Edith "Eadie" Levy imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of September, 2013, do hereby commemorate Edith "Eadie" Levy for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edith "Eadie" Levy.
