Resolution Congratulating La Petite Pastry Shop
WHEREAS, La Petite Pastry Shop has ended a fifty-five year run on the Southwest Side; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Marty Quinn, Alderman of the 13th Ward, has apprised the members of the chamber of this remarkable history; and
WHEREAS, Bill Gobel immigrated to the United State from Germany and began working in his uncle's pastry shop. He worked at many Southwest Side Bakeries. He later join the U.S. Army and was stationed in France. Upon the end of his service in 1967, Bill opened La Petite Pastry Shop at 2809 W 63rd Street. In 1973, a young Kim, fresh out of high school, started working at La Petite; and
WHEREAS, In 1976 Bill and Kim opened a second LaPetite location in the Clearing Neighborhood. Bill and Kim married in 1987, making them business and life partners; and
WHEREAS, La Petite was a staple in the Clearing Neighborhood for many year, offering the best chocolate doughnuts, superb bacon buns and pecan coffeecakes around. Their famous Rainbow cake celebrated numerous momentous occasions; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this fifteenth Day of March, 2023, do hereby congratulate Bill and Kim Gobel on many years of service to the Southwest Side of Chicago and wish them many happy years of retirement
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Bill and Kim Gobel.
