Memorial Resolution for Shirley L. Roper
WHEREAS, God in his infinite wisdom, called Shirley L. Roper home on April 21, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The City Council was informed of her passing by the Honorable Raymond A. Lopez, Alderman of the 15th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roper was the third child of seven born to the union of Henry Jr. and Clara Black on November 23, 1929; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roper was a devoted and hardworking student at both St. Anselm and St. Elizabeth Catholic schools in the heart of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roper later met and married her husband Ernest D. Roper, their union was blessed with a large family; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roper was a devout Catholic and member of the St. Benedict's Council of Catholic Women, she continued to be an active member of her church community and regularly attended church until her health prevented her from participating; and
WHEREAS, Her memory lives on through the cherished memories of her daughters, Constance, Patricia, Elizabeth Reaves, Beverly, Jeroline, Shirley, and Veronica, sons Torrence, Mark, Anthony, and Leslie. She is also remembered by her thirty-six grandchildren, eighty-five great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren, as well as her nieces, nephews, and god-children; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Roper touched the lives of those around her and cared for their needs with love and compassion, she will be deeply missed by her host of family and friends; now, therefore,
BE IT BE RESOLVED, That we. The Mayor and members of City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered together on 22nd day of June, 2016, do hereby extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Shirley L. Roper, and;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Shirley L. Roper as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
