TO THE HONORABLE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO
Ladies and Gentlemen:
I transmit herewith a resolution honoring the life and memory of Phil Collins. Your favorable consideration of this resolution will be appreciated.

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Members of this Chamber were deeply saddened to learn of the death on March 5, 2011, at age 80, of Phil Collins; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised on Chicago's Northwest Side, Mr. Collins was a legendary handball player and a veteran of the United States Air Force; and
WHEREAS, Admired for his powerful serves and exceptional scoring skills, from 1951 to 1960 Mr. Collins won 17 national handball championship titles in the YMCA, Amateur Athletic Union, and United States Handball Association tournaments; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Collins and his doubles partner Johnny Sloan, famously known as the "Windy City Whiz Kids," captured four consecutive national four-wall handball championship titles, the longest-ever doubles winning streak at that time; and
WHEREAS, A Multi-National Handball Doubles Champion, who was ranked among the top four singles players in the Nation for almost" a decade, Mr. Collins was inducted into the United States Handball Association Hall of Fame in 1989; and
WHEREAS, A self-taught artist, Mr. Collins' paintings of lighthouses and seascapes were displayed in many Florida restaurants; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Collins supported handball long after he stopped playing the sport, generously gave of his time to pass along his handball knowledge, and created the^National Handball Hall of Fame Friends and Legends of the '50s and '60s Club, which honored handball veterans and promoted participation in the sport; and
WHEREAS, A truly exemplary human being, Mr. Collins will always be remembered for his dedication to athletics and fitness, his many contributions to the City of Chicago, and for his strength of character, inspiration, courage, and kindness; and...
