RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Fred Ruben a/k/a "Coach Ruben" was born in Chicago on July 17, 1926; and,

WHEREAS, Fred Ruben is an Army World War II Veteran who served our country from October 10, 1944 thru August 16, 1946. He was part ofthe 80th Infantry Division, one ofthe longest fighting divisions in World War II and they were the last ones to fire shots in World War II; and,
WHEREAS, During his military career, Fred Ruben helped liberate English prisoners of war in a Munich Nazi Camp; and,
WHEREAS, Assigned to the First Division in Nuremberg, he held the position of Guard Duty over the Nuremberg Trials of Nazi war criminals before the International Military Tribunal. He was assigned to personally guard Nazi war criminal, Julius Streicher, the notorious Jew-Baiter of Nuremburg; and,
WHEREAS, After his military career, Fred Ruben held the position of substitute teacher at Lake View High School from September 1950 thru March 1951; and,
WHEREAS, After leaving his substitute teaching career, Fred Ruben worked for Lakeshore Cleaners for thirteen years. Shortly thereafter, he went back to school to take the exam to become a teacher; and,
WHEREAS, Fred Ruben taught at Lake View High School from 1968 until his retirement in 1993. He held the positon of gym teacher, swim coach, football coach, baseball coach, and guidance counselor; and,
WHEREAS, After retirement from Lake View High School, Coach Ruben took it upon himself to start the not-for-profit "The New Lake View Alumni Association" Newsletter due to his love for the students he taught and guided. It was his personal project and passion to keep as many alumni in touch as possible. For the past 25 years, the worldwide members have grown to over 8,000 alumni, ranging from the classes ofthe 1920's to the present; and,
WHEREAS, For 63 years, Coach Fred Ruben has been married to his love of his life, Betty, and have two children, a son and a daughter; and,
