TRIBUTE TO OSCAR WOODS
WHEREAS, Almighty God, in His Infinite Wisdom, granted Oscar Woods eternal rest on October 29,2012; and
WHEREAS, Oscar "OC" Woods started life in Winstonville, Mississippi as the fifth of nine children born to the union of he late Wilbert and Agnes Howard Woods. His father lived to the age of 103; and
WHEREAS, OC graduated from the Mound Bayou, Mississippi High School and was a field worker until he moved to this city in 1963 where he met and was joined in holy wedlock to the late Edna Smiley a year later and they raised seven children together; and
WHEREAS, OC was employed for many years at Appleton Electric until an old injury sustained as a teen in Mississippi forced him to retire early. He leaves behind to mourn his passing and cherish his memory two daughters, Almeta Woods and Nina Putmon; three sons, Eldred Woods, Oscar Woods, Jr. and Cordell Williams; three sisters, Lovia Burton, Susie Mae Woods, and Earlene Norman; 15 grandchildren (three of whom he raised); 20 great grand children and a host of nieces, nephews and other relations as well as many good friends; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Toni Foulkes, Alderman of the 15th Ward, has informed this august body of Oscar "OC" Woods' transition; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members of the City of Chicago City Council do hereby express our sorrow upon learning of the passing of Oscar "OC" Woods and extend our deepest sympathy to his many family members and friends whose lives he touched.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Oscar "OC" Woods.
