RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Jean Wright Haider has gone to her eternal reward at the age of 75; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Jean Wright Haider was a widely admired Chicago civic leader; and
WHEREAS, Jean Wright Haider partnered with Chicago History Museum President Gary Johnson to oversee the renaming and "reinvention" of the museum located in the Lincoln Park community; and
WHEREAS, Jean Wright Haider served as President of The Guild of the Chicago History Museum, and was instrumental in efforts to make the institution more welcoming to the public; and
WHEREAS, A woman of dignity, grace and charm, Jean Wright Haider was raised in the North Shore suburb of Winnetka and earned a bachelor's degree in English literature from Smith College; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished wordsmith and a lover of poetry and literature, Jean Wright Haider worked for the now defunct publisher Harcourt Brace and World Inc. in New York City; and
WHEREAS, Jean Wright Haider also served on the Board of the Chicago Foundation for Education which supports teachers in the Chicago Public Schools through grants and professional development opportunities; and
WHEREAS, Jean Wright Haider was a former member of the Women's Board of the Lyric Opera of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jean Wright Haider serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To her husband, Dr. Donald, her three children, Donald, Elinor and Paul, her six grandchildren, her stepmother, Jean, and her half-brother, Theron, Jean Wright Haider imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-sixth day of July, 2017, do hereby commemorate Jean Wright Haider for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
