RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING EL VALOR
WHEREAS, El Valor has assisted numerous Chicagoans with life-changing social services; and
WHEREAS, this esteemed body has been informed about the impact this organization is making in the City by the Honorable Daniel Solis, Alderman ofthe 25th Ward; and
WHEREAS, in 1973, Guadalupe A. Reyes founded El Valor, which means courage, to be a community where individuals, including those with special needs, could work, learn and live; and
WHEREAS, El Valor established the first bilingual rehabilitation center in Illinois; and
WHEREAS, in 1976 El Valor moved into a facility on 21st Street where it continues to provide day services; and
WHEREAS, the organization supplies rehabilitation and workforce development services to 1,500 individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, El Valor provides early childhood programming for over 2,000 youth; and
WHEREAS, El Valor serves more than 1,000 families at each of its three Children and Family Centers, located in Pilsen, Little Village, and South Chicago. The organization also operates a Vocational Work Center, a Technology Center and five group homes; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor and the members of the City Council of the City of
Chicago, gathered here this 22nd day of June, 2016, hereby congratulate El Valor for its service to the City of Chicago; and
