WHEREAS, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 80; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy was the loving wife for 55 years of the Honorable Morgan F. Jr., a former United States Congressman; and

WHEREAS, A woman of dignity, grace and charm, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy was the much-adored mother of Morgan, III, Michelle and Constance; and

WHEREAS, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy was the devoted grandmother of Morgan IV, Brendan, Riley Doody, Brieanne and Brendan Hebert; and

WHEREAS, Raised in the South Shore community, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy hailed from Danish-Irish roots and was the only child of realtor Charles Jurgensen and the former Pauline Darrah; and

WHEREAS, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy graduated from St. Clotilde Elementary School, Aquinas Dominican High School on the South Side of Chicago and Barat College in north suburban Lake Forest; and

WHEREAS, Following college, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy was a dedicated teacher at Scott School in Chicago and met her future husband at a party; and

WHEREAS, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy and the Honorable Morgan F., Jr. married in 1959 at St. Ailbe's Church and settled in the Beverly community on the Far South Side where they lived for many years and raised a close and loving family; and

WHEREAS, Shortly after her marriage, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy became involved with Mercy Hospital and Medical Center where she was a longtime supporter and member of the annual gala committee; and

WHEREAS, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy will be remembered for her selflessness and enduring gift of love to others; and

WHEREAS, Charlene "Char" Diane Murphy will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
