RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, After thirty years of dedicated service and ministry, the Reverend Thomas Nangle has announced his retirement as the Chaplain of the Chicago Police Department; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Thomas Nangle was appointed as Director of the Chicago Police Department's Police Chaplain Unit in 1981 and throughout his esteemed tenure has earned the deep respect of officers citywide; and
WHEREAS, As Chaplain for the Chicago Police Department, the Reverend Thomas Nangle was responsible for counseling active and retired police personnel, as well as ministering to the emotional needs of those officers' families; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Thomas Nangle immersed himself in the role and ushered officers through the most traumatic moments of their professional lives; and
WHEREAS, The Reverend Thomas Nangle offered countless police officers the healing support which allowed them to sustain their roles as protectors and defenders of the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, In 1987 the Reverend Thomas Nangle established the Police Chaplains Ministry Fund, which benefits families of police officers killed in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, For three decades, the Reverend Thomas Nangle provided Chicago police officers with guidance which was honest, compassionate and free of judgment; and
WHEREAS, A reception honoring the retirement of the Reverend Thomas Nangle will be held on September 8, 2011 at the White Eagle Club in Niles; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this twenty-eighth day of July, 2011, do hereby congratulate the Reverend Thomas Nangle on the occasion of his retirement and do hereby express our gratitude for his thirty years of service with the Chicago Police Department; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Reverend Thomas Nangle.
