RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 66; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Evergreen Park, Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., was a widely admired member of the law enforcement community and the loving husband for thirty-seven years of the late Paula, nee Rumsey; and

WHEREAS, Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., was the much-adored father of Dennis E., Jr., and Katherine to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., was the dear brother of Hyland, James, Diane, Terrence, Patrick, Dorothy and the late Howard and Marcia; and

WHEREAS, A native of the South Side of Chicago, Dennis E. Nolan graduated from Mount Carmel High School and attended Austin Peay State University in Tennessee for two years; and

WHEREAS, Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., served his country in the United States Navy as a radio operator aboard the USS Galveston in the Mediterranean Sea during the 1960s; and

WHEREAS, In 1972 Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., joined the Chicago Police Department and served as a patrol officer and communications dispatcher; and

WHEREAS, Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., left the Chicago Police Department in 1981 and worked as a Watch Commander for the C&NW Railroad before becoming Chief of Public Safety at Oakton Community College; and

WHEREAS, During his years at Oakton Community College, Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., oversaw the purchase of state-of-the-art security cameras, recording equipment and motion detectors; and

WHEREAS, Gifted with a highly approachable personality, Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., brought to his career a mixture of intelligence and caring; and

WHEREAS, Owing in no small measure to the dedication and efforts of Dennis E. Nolan, Sr., Oakton Community College was rated in 2011 one of the nation's safer schools among 450 colleges and universities; and
