Ladies and Gentlemen:

I transmit herewith a congratulatory resolution regarding Jimmy Fallon's welcome participation in Chicago's Polar Plunge.

RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The City of Chicago is proud to be the home of the original Special Olympics and continues to be a partner in this extraordinary endeavor, providing Special Olympics-related opportunities in over 110 Chicago Public Schools throughout the City and in twenty-three parks through the Chicago Park District; and

WHEREAS, In order to further support this tremendous cause, Mayor Rahm Emanuel offered to participate in the annual "Polar Plunge" and dive into the freezing waters of Lake Michigan to help raise money to benefit incredible and inspiring athletes around the world if the young participants of "Rahm's Readers" read more than 2 million books during the City's "Summer of Learning"; and

WHEREAS, Rahm's Readers exceeded the goal of 2 million books, and the Mayor honored his pledge, while also recruiting Library Commissioner Brian Bannon, Parks Superintendent Michael Kelly and former Chicago Bear Israel Idonije to join him in jumping in the ice-cold waters off North Avenue Beach; and

WHEREAS, On February 17, 2014, James Thomas "Jimmy" Fallon became the sixth host of NBC's storied Tonight Show; and

WHEREAS, Jimmy Fallon first became well known to Chicago residents as a cast member on NBC's Saturday Night Live, where he appeared in several memorable roles, including the drummer uncontrollably laughing during the famous "More Cowbell" scene; and

WHEREAS, Jimmy Fallon today enjoys a loyal and enthusiastic Chicago viewing audience who, by watching in large numbers, have helped make the launch of his new show outstandingly successful. Mayor Emanuel knew that Jimmy, also known ...
