TRIBUTE TO ANNIE MAE JACKSON MURPHY
WHEREAS, In His Infinite Wisdom, Almighty God has granted Annie Mae Jackson Murphy, an outstanding member of her community, eternal rest on April 29, 2013; and
WHEREAS, On July 23, 1940, Annie Mae Jackson Murphy started life in Hopkinsville, Kentucky as one of six children bom to Pleas and Alcyona Jackson. Her parents instilled in her the need for education and, more importantly, a relationship with her Lord. She was baptized at the age of 10 by Reverend Gordon at Foston Chapel Baptist Church in the community where she was born; and
WHEREAS, In I960, Annie Murphy moved to Chicago with friends who were recruited for office positions at Aldens, Incorporated, a mail order business. This was a phenomenal accomplishment because, at the time, few companies in Chicago hired African Americans for office positions. Her career progressed and she ultimately became the appropriation manager at the Salvation Army, retiring in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Annie Murphy and her husband, Henry Murphy, were blessed with two children. Their unselfish sacrifices resulted in both of their children, Pam and Eric, graduating from DePaul University;and
WFIEREAS, The Honorable Anthony A. Beale, Alderman ofthe 9th Ward, has informed this august body of Annie Murphy's transition; now therefore
BE IT RESOLVED That we, the Mayor and members ofthe City of Chicago City Council, gathered together this 26th Day of June, 2013 AD, do hereby express our sincerest sorrow upon learning ofthe passing of Annie Mae Jackson Murphy and extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and all others whose lives she touched.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to the family of Annie Mae Jackson Murphy.
