RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Veteran Chicago news reporter John Cody has announced his retirement from WBBM, Newsradio following 48 years of dedicated and able service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, An award winning journalist, John Cody began his journalism career at the City News Bureau of Chicago, the legendary local wire service, where he was a reporter, rewrite man and radio desk editor; and
WHEREAS, One of our City's longest-serving and best-known journalists, John Cody joined WBBM as a writer and producer in 1967, the year before it changed its format to all news; and
WHEREAS, From 1968 to 1970, John Cody reported for the Pacific Stars and Stripes while in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, Returning to the station following his military service, John Cody was made a general assignment reporter in 1973 and worked at the all-news station during its infancy; and
WHEREAS, John Cody has excelled as both an investigative and feature reporter; and
WHEREAS, John Cody is a master storyteller with a unique skill for human interest features and diverse subjects; and
WHEREAS, In 2013 John Cody received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Chicago Headline Club which recognized his work uncovering fraud and corruption in the public and private sectors; and
WHEREAS, John Cody has likened his career to "a magic carpet ride" and notes that he will most miss the people that have made his career so interesting; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, integrity and dedication of John Cody serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby applaud John Cody on his exemplary career in journalism and do hereby express our best wishes for a retirement blessed by good health and personal fulfillment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this
