RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Samuel K. Gove has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-seven; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Samuel K. Gove was a leading authority on Illinois state politics and the Director Emeritus of the Institute of Government and Public Affairs at the University of Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Samuel K. Gove was the Founding Chairman of Rlinois Issues, an influential magazine specializing in politics; and
WHEREAS, Samuel K. Gove attended Massachusetts State College from 1941 to 1943 and served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Reserve during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Samuel K. Gove graduated from the University of Massachusetts and earned a master's degree in political science from Syracuse University; and
WHEREAS, During the 1960s, Samuel K. Gove played a leading role in the effort to draft a new Illinois constitution and later collaborated on two books on the 1970 Illinois Constitutional Convention; and
WHEREAS, Between 1957 and 1982, Samuel K. Gove organized seventeen statewide conventions on issues facing the state; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Samuel K. Gove serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Samuel K. Gove was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Samuel K. Gove imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of February, 2011, do hereby commemorate Samuel K. Gove for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the^sunily of Samuel/K. Gove.
