RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Marshall Bennett has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 97; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Marshall Bennett was a pioneering real estate developer and the loving husband for 70 years of Arlene, nee Gettleman; and

WHEREAS, Marshall Bennett was the much-adored father of Bija and Alice and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Raised in the South Shore community, Marshall Bennett attended Hirsch High School and the University of Chicago; and

WHEREAS, A member of "Our Greatest Generation," Marshall Bennett served in the United States Navy during World War II on a submarine chaser in the Aleutian Islands and aboard a destroyer in the Northern Atlantic; and

WHEREAS, Along with his business partner Louis Kahnweiler, Marshall Bennett co-founded Bennett & Kahnweiler which developed 26 industrial parks; and

WHEREAS, After striking out on his own in 1982, Marshall Bennett diversified his business into office brokerage, property management, pension fund advising and syndication; and

WHEREAS, A widely admired philanthropist, Marshall Bennett raised funding for the Marshall Bennett Institute of Real Estate at Roosevelt University in 2002; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Marshall Bennett serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Marshall Bennett to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Marshall Bennett was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Marshall Bennett imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
