WHEREAS, Austin Thomas Joyce was bom on April 7, 1929; and;

WHEREAS, Austin called Chicago his home, spending a decade of his life in the 43^rd Ward and 55 years with his family in the 47^th Ward; and;

WHEREAS, Austin served in the 1^st Marine Division, 1^st Marine Brigade, and Fleet Marine Force in the Pacific Theater during the Second Great War ; and;

WHEREAS, Corporal Joyce returned from the war a decorated hero, honored with the Good Conduct Medal and the Fleet Marine Force Ribbon, among others ; and;

WHEREAS, Following his Honorable Discharge from the United States Marine Corp, Austin faithfully served the City of Chicago for 40 years as a Park Attendant with the Chicago Park District; and;

WHEREAS, Austin was a loyal husband to Delia Frances, a dedicated father to Mark, Patrick, John, Margaret, & Ellen, and loving grandfather to Margaret Mary Joyce, who held his family near to his heart; and;

WHEREAS, Austin Thomas Joyce was called to Heaven on August 19, 2013, where he watches over his loved ones;

Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby express our sorrow for the passing of Austin Thomas Joyce and extend to his family and friends our deepest sympathy; and

Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Austin Thomas Joyce.
