RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, John Edward "Jack" McHugh has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, John Edward "Jack" McHugh was the loving and devoted husband of Brenda and the late Rosemary, nee Hartigan; and
WHEREAS, John Edward "Jack" McHugh was the much-adored father of five children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Raised in the Beverly neighborhood, John Edward "Jack" McHugh attended St. Rita High School where he excelled at football and was recruited to attend Notre Dame University by its legendary athletic director, Moose Krause; and
WHEREAS, In 1951 John Edward "Jack" McHugh left college to join the United States Army where he served until 1953; and
WHEREAS, Returning to Chicago, John Edward "Jack" McHugh declined an offer to play football for the Chicago Cardinals and joined his family's construction business; and
WHEREAS, Along with his brother, James, John Edward "Jack" McHugh built the business founded by their grandfather into an internationally successful company; and
WHEREAS, The high-profile projects constructed by McHugh included Marina Towers, Water Tower Place, Prudential Plaza, the O'Hare International Hotel and Trump Tower; and
WHEREAS, In 1969 John Edward "Jack" McHugh founded the Special Children's Charities to sponsor the original Special Olympic Games held at Soldier Field; and
WHEREAS, As owner of the Four Torches Restaurant, John Edward "Jack" McHugh hosted annual benefits supporting Special Olympics which headlined celebrities such as Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Pat Henry and Tom Dreesen; and
WHEREAS, The longstanding civic contributions and dedication of John Edward "Jack" McHugh serve as an example to all; and
