RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Kevin T. O'Brien has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Kevin T. O'Brien was a pioneering participant in Chicago's Special Olympics; and
WHEREAS, Kevin T. O'Brien excelled at swimming, bowling, bocce ball, race-walking, floor hockey and golf and won more than 750 medals; and
WHEREAS, Raised in St. Catherine of Genoa Parish in Roseland and St. Catherine of Alexandra Parish in Oak Lawn, Kevin T. O'Brien was the much-beloved son of the late Anne and Martin; and
WHEREAS, Kevin T. O'Brien was the dear and devoted brother of James, Martin, John, Melanie and the late Bonnie; and
WHEREAS, Kevin T. O'Brien was a valued employee of Sertomo Centre in Alsip for more than 35 years and a member of St. Barnabas Church in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, In 1968 Kevin T. O'Brien was one of the original participants in the inaugural Special Olympics at Soldier Field and one of the children who first inspired the event to be held and organized; and
WHEREAS, During his life, Kevin T. O'Brien met many public figures, including Mayor Richard M. Daley, Mayor Harold Washington, Bears Coach Mike Ditka and sports icons Muhammad Ali and Ernie Banks; and
WHEREAS, Kevin T. O'Brien loved meeting people "whether they were standin' up or lyin' down" and shared with them his abundant sense of kindness, joy and personal generosity; and
WHEREAS, His love of life endeared Kevin T. O'Brien to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Kevin T. O'Brien will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Kevin T. O'Brien imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
