RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Douglas L. Johnson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 63; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Douglas L. Johnson was the loving and devoted husband of Beth; and
WHEREAS, Douglas L. Johnson was the much-adored father of Maxwell and Abigail to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Douglas L. Johnson was the beloved son of Leonard and Doris and the cherished brother of Gary; and
WHEREAS, Having graduated from Rush University College of Medicine in 1986, Douglas L. Johnson completed his residency in neurosurgery at the University of Chicago in 1992; and
WHEREAS, A medical doctor of rare talent and compassion, Douglas L. Johnson faithfully served the best interests of his patients as a staff member of Central DuPage Hospital for twenty-three years; and
WHEREAS, Responding to an urgent need for experienced doctors, Douglas L. Johnson joined the Navy Reserve medical corps and was deployed to Iraq in 2004 as an assistant battalion surgeon with the United States Marines; and
WHEREAS, During his time in Iraq Douglas L. Johnson often worked in locations under direct threat of enemy fire in order to stabilize the condition of soldiers who had suffered severe trauma; and
WHEREAS, With his consummate skill and extensive experience, Douglas L. Johnson helped to save the lives of many members of our armed forces; and
WHEREAS, Douglas L. Johnson embodied the highest principles of the medical profession and brought hope, comfort and healing to everyone he treated; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Douglas L. Johnson serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Douglas L. Johnson to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and...
