MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR HELEN J. K1WALA
WHEREAS, It is with great sadness that members of this Chamber learned of the death of Helen J. Kiwala on June 26, 2018 at the age of 102; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of her passing by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 21, 1915 to her late parents, Peter and Josephine Glab, Helen was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Edward J. Kiwala; devoted mother of the late Thomas R. Kiwala and Terrence E. (Carol) Kiwala; cherished grandmother of Terrence E. Kiwala, Jr., Catherine T. Kiwala and Tina (Ross) Koenig and treasured friend to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Helen leaves a legacy of faith, dignity and love; and
WHEREAS, A world traveler at heart, Helen especially enjoyed Japan, Hong Kong, Australia, and Europe visiting many times. She was a woman of strong faith who regularly atteneded mass at her beloved St. Tarcissus Church from 1941 until a few years ago when she began watching mass on television. Helen was known for her outgoing personality, positive attitude and devotion to family dinners. She was an amazing cook with a flair for cuisine presentation. Helen exercised daily until ten days before death, and earned awards for swimming one hundred miles a year; and
WHEREAS, Helen touched the lives of all who knew her through her unconditional love and vivacious spirit. She will be deeply missed, but the memory of her character will live on in those who knew and loved her; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and member of the City Council of the City of Chicago gathered here this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby express our sorrow on the death of Helen J. Kiwala and express to her family and friends our deepest sympathy; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Helen J. Kiwala as a token of our honor, gratitude, and respect.
