RESOLUTION To honor the retirement of Barbara Kargas, and establish June 23, 2021 as Barbara Kargas Day
WHEREAS, Barbara Kargas started her career in education at Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Elementary School in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, in 1976, and is retiring at the end ofthis school year; and,
WHEREAS, Her myriad of positions over the years covered everything from primary and middle grades teacher, librarian, art teacher, and reading specialist; and,
WHEREAS, Barbara Kargas often team-taught, either in a dual language setting, with the Goethe Fine Arts Team, or within a Discovery Island pod, always collaborating, sharing ideas, and bringing disparate things together; and,
WHEREAS, In 2007, Barbara Kargas became principal of Goethe, where she has been principal for the past 14 years; and,
WHEREAS, Barbara Kargas has a history of fiercely leading the Goethe community, constantly standing up for what is right without backing down, pouring her time, love, and energy, whether through her time as a proud Union Delegate, working with students on the weekends during her time as a teacher, or scouring over tough budget decisions until past midnight as a principal; and,
WHEREAS, Barbara Kargas is the ultimate community builder and neighborhood historian, having taught up to three generations of families and deeply understanding complete family histories and how to best provide the best support for their individual needs; and,
WHEREAS, Goethe Elementary's school motto of "bucket-filling" is deeply inspired by Barbara Kargas, proving that bucket-filling is not just kid stuff, but life stuff - she deeply believes in finding the good in everyone and helps others to thrive or reroute their paths to be the best possible version of themselves; and,
WHEREAS, Barbara Kargas is Goethe's shining light, always finding joy in the moment, whether it be dancing at retirement parties and Latin Beats on the Square, or surprising studen...
